Respect & Safety Guidelines

The Vancouver Masters Lacrosse Club is not a traditional league — we are a club. Our purpose is to create a space where players can enjoy the game, stay active, and build lasting friendships. While we all love to compete, our focus is on fun, fitness, and camaraderie. Every member shares responsibility for creating a safe, respectful, and enjoyable environment both on and off the floor.

Respect and Sportsmanship

  • Treat teammates, opponents, officials, and spectators with dignity and respect at all times.
  • Discriminatory, abusive, or threatening language or behavior will not be tolerated.
  • Referees’ decisions are final and must be respected.
  • Verbal or physical abuse of officials or volunteers may result in a year-long suspension or lifetime ban from the club.

Player Safety and Fair Play

  • No deliberate intent to injure another player.
  • Body checking and dangerous play are prohibited.
  • Players must wear appropriate equipment at all times.
  • No hard offensive picks. Offensive players must keep their hands together when setting picks.
  • Defensive players must not make contact with offensive players away from the ball.
  • Hard slashes or cross checks will not be tolerated.
  • No crease dives on offense where the player lands in the crease. This rule is in place to protect goalies.

Penalties and Discipline

  • Any player who accumulates three penalties or six minutes in a single game will receive an automatic ejection for the remainder of that game.
  • Any player who accumulates three ejections in a season will be removed from the club for the rest of that season.
  • Fighting is an automatic lifetime ban from the club.
  • Violations of these guidelines may result in warnings, suspensions, or removal. Serious incidents including violence, harassment, discrimination, fighting, or abuse of officials will result in a year-long suspension or lifetime ban.
  • Any year-long suspension or lifetime ban will be issued with no refund.

Alcohol and Substances

  • No alcohol or illegal substances are permitted on the playing surface or team benches.
  • Players under the influence will not be permitted to play.
  • By registering for the VML season, all players agree to uphold these Respect & Safety Guidelines and help make the club a safe, competitive, and enjoyable place for everyone.
